Noodles!

We have been playing a play structure on the top of our backyard "rock hill" for a while... but March / April '21 is when we got our act together! Here's the first of many HD and Lowes runs.
The first one 2x6 we laid on the ground with the 3 support cinder blocks. Note that the bottom right end went on top of the rock and didn't a block.
Leveling the blocks took a whole day!
The outer deck frame coming together...
Deck frame is half done here. We re-used as much lumber a we had... because it's not cheap building a wood structure at the height of the lumber shortage. A 2x4 was as much as $8 during these times.
Rosie helped find all the nails I kept dropping!
Who doesn't like to hammer stuff?!?
The deck boards are cut and ready for installation.
This was perhaps the most nerve wracking part... getting the roof joists cut at the right angle. A screw up would have cost a lot of time and money!
Shy helping check the clearance.
Not that bad a job...
Not that bad a job!
This is Paul, my brother-in-law who came over to help with the roof install.
First set of a-frame structure is up using 4.5" to 6" lag screws.
It was (is!) solid on its own.
2nd one up and that's all we got done that day...
It rained overnight...
All 3 a-frame pieces are screwed in.

Video of the [successful] attempt #2 of us to put the ridge beam / board in...
The ridge beam is up and so are the horizontal supports for the roof on the climbing wall side.
Rosie helped paint the "convertible" roof / gate.
Using a 2x4 and some clamps to try to make the roof plywood board flat! :points_to_smart_brain:
Almost done with the climbing wall side plywood boards.

Sara wanted to get in on the plywood attachment action!
The gate hinges are attached!
Testing the gate hinges...
Testing out the disc swing... it worked well with just the 2x6 beam, but we reinforced it later with a 2x4 horizontally added underneath (Per Derek Diedricksen's suggestion!)

And the polycarbonate roof panels are screwed in. Note that we used EPDM rubber strips over the roof ridge and in between the top plywood and the poly panels to prevent leaks into the playhouse.
A "we are done for the day" shot!
Freshly cleaned deck floor, ready for staining!
And it's all stained!
Testing the swing with 3 bodies... and we haven't even installed the 2x4 support.
So in another cost cutting measure, we made our own "shiplap" with our router out of treated dog-ear fence pickets.

Shiplap panels are up!

Oh, I forgot to mention that the double hung aluminum window is in!
And onto the panels on the front of the house...
Panels all stained and "dutch door" installed. The door was also made from the same fence pickets.
We installed a vent on the top of the door. With the double hung window open on the other side, it should provide for some additional air floor (when the whole side wall isn't open, that is).
Found this "door window" for the climbing wall!
Installing the climbing wall holds.

And we're testing the climbing holds!
A deer came to visit... and eat our plants.
As is evident by this little plant, we didn't do that good a job (or a job at all) of prevent stuff from going underneath the playhouse. But that's okay... ;)
Painting the inside wall with chalkboard paint.

It took us a couple of months to come back finish the house, but here's the collapsible table fully installed and being tested for the first time.
And now testing the chalkboard wall...

Testing the roof raising / lowering mechanism.
Some battery powered string lights.
And we think it's all finished...
